The Semiconductor Industry’s Carbon Footprint
The semiconductor industry is a crucial provider of advanced technology in various fields such as space research, national security, and AI. However, the industry’s carbon footprint has become a significant concern due to the massive consumption of electricity, gas, and consumable materials per site, per year, which can harm the environment if not addressed.
Thermco System’s Commitment to Reducing Carbon Emissions
Thermco Systems is a company committed to reducing its carbon footprint to achieve Net Zero emissions. The company is working closely with customers, suppliers, and government bodies to identify and address the significant challenges within the semiconductor industry. One of the main missions is to implement strategies that focus on reducing, reusing, and recycling across the offices and manufacturing processes.
Redesigning Equipment for Extended Service Life
Thermco has established internal targets to decrease the use of materials that harm the environment, including PVA, by implementing smart technology and AI to tackle the challenges posed by the technology revolution. The company has designed its systems to provide a “cradle-to-grave” approach for its equipment, thereby extending the anticipated service life from 10 to 20 years or more. This provides customers with the assurance that they won’t have to dispose of systems frequently but can retrofit their machines.
Furthermore, the company has introduced an operational and AI system that significantly reduces the number of times engineers or operators need to enter clean rooms with costly, disposable PPI gloves, masks, boots, and overgowns, which are single-use or require daily cleaning with harmful detergents.
Thermco has achieved these objectives through various initiatives, such as retrofit and upgrade solutions, a 300mm automated diffusion furnace, significant reduction in cabling, optimized power supplies, streamlined PCBs, and digital control evolution. These initiatives have resulted in a 66% reduction in power consumption, a 60% reduction in carbon footprint, and a 50% decrease in PCBs, among other benefits.
Collaborating with Triple Cores Technology
Moreover, the company has partnered with Triple Cores Technology to develop a collaborative abatement solution that aligns perfectly with Thermco’s commitment to environmental improvement. The solution aims to reduce the environmental impact of the semiconductor industry by providing innovative abatement designs that assure customers of reliable systems with exceptional returns on investment.
At Thermco, we understand the urgency of transitioning towards a Net Zero future. That is why we are committed to taking a leading role in this journey. We believe that by working together, we can create a more sustainable future within the semiconductors industry.
