Thermco was delighted to be presented with a wafer manufactured by the students at Bristol University, following the donation of a Thermco diffusion furnace to the university in 2023. The lab at Bristol University was transformed into a laboratory capable of making simple electronic devices, including diodes, capacitors, and transistors. The project brought about by Mike Czerniak, allows students at the university studying Chemistry and Physics to be able to benefit from hands-on experience in the new semiconductor laboratory. The students produced their first wafer in March 2023, where the team were thrilled that all the transistors on the wafer worked on their first attempt! A great achievement!
Thermco strongly believes it is important to bridge the gap between academia and industry. With a track record of offering school experience placements to students, investing in apprentices and through supporting universities across the UK, we are committed to developing the skills for the future, to ensure that manufacturing in the UK and the UK economy can thrive.
A plaque displaying a wafer produced by students at Bristol University was kindly presented to Thermco’s manufacturing manager, Garry Oldfield. Thank you to the Thermco team for their hard work and Mike for facilitating this wonderful achievement.
