I recently completed a week of work experience at Thermco Systems UK, and it was an incredibly valuable and enjoyable experience that gave me real insight into how a successful engineering company operates across multiple departments.
Throughout the week, I had the opportunity to work closely with the finance team, gaining hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the financial aspects of the business. I was introduced to the systems used for managing budgets, invoices, and reporting, and the team took the time to explain how finance plays a crucial role in supporting the company’s growth and operations. I was trusted with small tasks, which helped me feel like a real part of the team.
In addition to finance, I shadowed the engineering department, where I observed how high-tech manufacturing processes are managed and maintained. It was fascinating to see how Thermco’s advanced equipment is designed and built, and it gave me a deeper appreciation for the technical skill and precision required in this industry.
I also had the opportunity to sit in on internal meetings and experience how different teams communicate and collaborate on projects. One of the highlights of my week was having one-to-one conversations with senior sales professionals, who shared valuable advice and insights into the sales strategy behind their global operations. Their passion and professionalism left a lasting impression on me, opening my eyes to the commercial side of engineering.
Everyone at Thermco Systems UK was incredibly welcoming, and they made the effort to involve me in meaningful activities while offering guidance and support throughout the week. This experience has expanded my understanding of how different business functions come together in a technical environment, and it has inspired me to explore career paths in both engineering and business.
